More on seed longevity phenotyping

چکیده
Abstract Understanding the relative longevity of different seed lots, perhaps species or genotypes, but also following production under environments using cultivation methods, post-harvest treatments, is relevant to anyone concerned with retention lot viability and vigour during storage. However, scientists over years have used conditions assess longevity, as well variables measure ‘longevity.’ Here, we give some backgrounds how two standard protocols, an open closed system respectively, were derived, explain why consider p 50 , defined time storage when viability, measured through a germination test, has declined 50%, suitable trait parameter.

A role for seed storage proteins in Arabidopsis seed longevity
Proteomics approaches have been a useful tool for determining the biological roles and functions of individual proteins and identifying the molecular mechanisms that govern seed germination, vigour and viability in response to ageing. In this work the dry seed proteome of four Arabidopsis thaliana genotypes, that carry introgression fragments at the position of seed longevity quantitative trait...
متن کاملGalactinol as marker for seed longevity.
Reduced seed longevity or storability is a major problem in seed storage and contributes to increased costs in crop production. Here we investigated whether seed galactinol contents could be predictive for seed storability behavior in Arabidopsis, cabbage and tomato. The analyses revealed a positive correlation between galactinol content and seed longevity in the three species tested, which ind...
متن کاملSeed longevity and seeding strategies affect sagebrush
Three hypotheses were tested relating to Wyoming big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata Nutt. ssp. wyomingensis (Beetle and Young) revegetation on coal-mined land in Wyoming: (1) that fourwing saltbush (Atriplex canescens (Pursh) Nutt.) seeded > 2.2 kg pure live seed (pls)/ha would exclude sagebrush, (2) the contrasting view that the saltbush, as a "pioneer plant", facilitated sagebrush stand deve...
متن کاملTransgenerational changes in seed longevity in Silene
Seed longevity, a fundamental plant trait for ex situ conservation and persistence in the soil of many species, varies across populations and generations that experience different climates. Mondoni et al. (pp. 1257–1263) study seeds from alpine and lowland populations of Silene vulgaris and show that seed longevity has a genetic basis but may show strong adaptive responses, which are associated...
